This is only a sample blog to illustrate the Sunrise Racer WordPress theme which is available for free at konstruktors.com and was developed by Kaspars.
Main features of the Sunrise Racer:
- Simple and easy to customize design — serif type fonts for the navigation and headers, and sans-serif for the main content.
- Multiple sidebars which allow you to better organize related “margin” information such as recent comments, popular posts or blogroll. Many of the typical blog layouts use equal sidebar information on all the pages throughout the blog — front page, single post page and archives, which might be an overwhelming amount of information for those coming to your site for the very first time or from search engines. There are 13 sidebars available in total (don’t worry, you don’t have to fill them all).
- Three column layout — wider sidebar on the left, and narrower margin on the right. In HTML source the main content comes first, sidebar the second, and finally the margin. Such order increases the usability for mobile phone visitors and optimizes the content for the search engines (by putting the significant things first).
- Default image alignment (to the right) without applying any “raw” HTML.
- Additional easy-to-remember CSS classes for specific image positioning — to the left, centered, right, with a caption and extra wide.
- Even more CSS classes for styling lists (like this one which is set to “flat”).
[Work in progress: this list will be expanded]
In defense of version targeting is a follow-up article by Jeffrey Zeldman to his previous post and the topic of browser version targeting feature planned for the upcoming release of Internet Explorer 8. His arguments (in favor of version targeting) might seem to be valid at first, but they are not enough in comparison to those who are against the version targeting.
Let’s start with an example (dates and browser versions are made up and are not important to illustrate the point). I made a website a two years ago (in 2006) and followed the W3C standards which resulted in a perfect content rendering in most of the standards aware browsers. Read more »
The following articles in the latest issue of the A List Apart magazine explain the necessity of browser targeting with the upcoming release of Internet Explorer 8, which is expected to be the most standards aware browser from Microsoft to date.
To me the idea of browser targeting seems absolutely absurd, and reasons for that are so many that it will require another post to explain them all in detail. Here are just a few. Read more »

Under: Podcast of the Week
Every week from now on I will suggest a podcast that I have been enjoying and you might too.
Lets begin with the Boagworld — a weekly audio podcast by Paul Boag and Marcus Lillington discussing the issues of web design, development and related news. Over 100 (and counting) episodes of the Boagworld are much more than just the Web design and development 101 course for someone starting out on the Web — it is The Late Night with Paul and Marcus for everyone involved in the web design.

The latest version (2.5) of the very popular and useful AdSense Manager plugin for WordPress by Martin Fitzpatrick doesn’t allow you to use the new ad management features that were recently implemented by Google. Previously you could track the ad performance only by their channel IDs.
Since the November 2007 an additional identifier is available for each of the ad units to which you can assign an explanatory title (for example, 200×200 ads, below article, etc.). These slots are also automatically given a 10 digit ID (like 6567667845) which is assigned to a new variable google_ad_slot inside the ad code.
Theoretically, for displaying an ad you now have to know only your publisher ID and the slot ID, while the rest of the ad’s look and feel can be adjusted through your AdSense account without ever touching the JavaScript which you have placed inside the HTML. Read more »
